Eddie Guerrero started his wrestling career in Mexico and Japan, wrestling for Consejo Mundialde de Lucha Libre (CMLL), Asistencia Asesoria y Administracion (AAA), and New Japan Pro Wrestling. He finally came to America in 1995, arriving in Paul Heyman‘s ECW. He debuted against 2 Cold Scorpio, and would go on to become a two time ECW Television Champion, but the highlight of his time in ECW was undoubtedly his feud with fellow mat technician Dean Malenko. The two had great chemistry together and had a series of incredible matches that earned them Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s 1995 “Feud of the Year.” For their outstanding efforts in ECW, both men were offered lucrative full time deals with Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling (WCW). Both men accepted and wrestled their emotional final match for ECW, with fans chanting “Please don’t go” in the background, on August 26, 1995. Guerrero’s time in WCW was full of ups and downs, he won the U.S.Championship and Cruiserwheight Championship, but he clashed with Executive Vice President Eric Bischoff, and often found himself out of any major main event story lines. Despite the issues, Eddie would go on to fulfill his contract and wrapped up his run with WCW in late 2000. His decision proved to be the right one, as WCW closed its doors shortly after in March of 2001.
