In October of 1992 Bret Hart defeated Ric Flair to win his first WWF Championship. He was the perfect guy at the perfect time. WWF needed to crown a young champion to lead them into their next chapter as a company, and Hart was the hands down right choice. Hart would enter WrestleMania IX as the defending WWF Champion but would fall at the hands of Yokozuna and lose the title to him, before a crazy turn of events would see Hulk Hogan end the night as WWF Champion. Despite losing at WrestleMania, 1993 was a great year for Hart. He would win the very first King of the Ring pay-per-view tournament, and enter a feud with Jerry “The King” Lawler over who was the real king of the WWF. Hart would be voted 1993’s Superstar of the Year by fans and Pro Wrestling Insider would name him 1993’s Best Wrestler along with awarding his feud with Lawler its Feud of the Year honors for 1993. Bret Hart was on top of the wrestling world and receiving the recognition he deserved for his amazing work.
