Mark Shapiro has dismissed the idea of introducing sports betting on WWE in the United States. While fans abroad can bet on WWE matches and other events through platforms like BetOnline, Shapiro told CNBC’s Alex Sherman in a recent interview that there are no plans to implement similar betting options in the US. He emphasized that WWE has no intention of making changes to accommodate betting within the country.
“Not happening. It’s not happening,” Mark Shapiro said (per Fightful). “We’re scripted. Years ago, I ran Dick Clark productions, we had enough of a challenge keeping the American Music Awards and Golden Globe winners under wraps with an auditor there. We’re not going to be asking Triple H to keep his scripts so under wrap that we can start sports betting.”
WWE was reportedly in discussions with gambling regulators in Colorado and Michigan to explore the possibility of allowing bets on match results. However, these talks ultimately did not lead to any progress.
This will happen eventually.
