Many people were surprised to see Charlotte Flair win the WWE NXT Women’s Championship by beating Rhea Ripley in night 2 of WrestleMania 36, which took place at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. Not because Charlotte is not worthy of the title, but because NXT is WWE’s developmental brand.
According to Dave Meltzer, WWE needed a star to appear regularly on NXT programming to help their ratings as they try to close the gap while going up against AEW Dynamite. Charlotte Flair is that star, so we can expect her to do double duty as she will be defending her title on NXT as well as appearing on WWE programming.
Flair is now a two-time NXT Women’s Champion.
