Monday Night Raw Recap For 5/9/16

We kickoff Raw with Chris Jericho and his Highlight Reel. Jericho says Dean Ambrose was suppose to be his special guest but he is not here tonight. He then shows off Dean’s plant Mitch, which is now broken. Jericho does not understand why the plant is getting so much attention. He is then interrupted by Big Cass. Cass comes down the ring alone, as his partner Enzo is still on the sidelines from the injury he suffered at Payback. Big Cass challenges Jericho to a fight. He tells him that in this ‘New Era’, there is no talking. But a lot of fighting. Jericho slowly walks out of the ring. Big Cass calls him SAWFT. Jericho then hits the ring but is hit by a big boot from Cass.

Jericho is backstage talking to Stephanie McMahon. He says this is all Shane’s fault. Stephanie disagrees. She tells Jericho that she will give him the chance to prove that he is not SAWFT. It will be Chris Jericho vs Big Cass in the main event today.

Dolph Ziggler vs Baron Corbin
This match is very physical. Both men fight both inside and outside of the ring. Corbin is in control in the ring. Ziggler makes a comeback with a splash and a neckbreaker. Ziggler goes on to get more offense but Corbin blocks a Zig Zag and hits Deep Six for a 2 count. Corbin hits Giggler with a big boot and shows off as fans boo. Ziegler then makes a small comeback. He rolls him up for a 2 count. Ziggler with a splash in the corner and right hands. Corbin then gets control again and hits The End Of Days for the victory. Will this be the beginning of the “Corbin Era’?

Winner: Baron Corbin

Shane McMahon is backstage. Charlotte and Ric Flair greet Shane. They say it’s unfair that Stephanie banned Ric from ringside and that he needs to do the “right” thing and reverse the decision. Shane disagrees and says that the decision not only applies for Extreme Rules, but also for tonight’s match.

Jojo interviews AJ Styles who is with Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. Styles says he had the chance to destroy Reigns with a steel chair last week, but didn’t. He took the high road. Styles says that we saw what road Reigns took with the table powerbomb. Styles says he won’t hesitate to take Reigns out now. Styles then says that The Club is back together.

R-Truth vs Fandango
Before the match it is announced that The Gorgeous Truth will fight Goldango this Thursday on Smackdown. Truth has control of the match in the beginning. Truth with some dancing and offense in the corner. Fandango then tosses Truth to the floor. They go back to the ring. He goes for the cover and gets a 2 count. Tyler Breeze and Goldust get on the apron. Fandango tosses Truth to the ropes and knocks down Tyler Breeze. Truth goes for the pin and gets the victory. Goldust is shocked.

Winner: R-Thruth

Kevin Owens, Cesaro, WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz and Maryse are backstage arguing with Shane and Stephanie. Stephanie announces a Triple Threat for the title at Extreme Rules. Sami Zayn walks up and says the fans want to see him prove he can be a champion. He proposes a match against The Miz and if he wins, the match at Extreme Rules is a Fatal 4 Way. Both Shane and Stephaine agree. Everyone leaves. Stephanie tells Shane they handled that pretty well as she walks off.

Charlotte vs Paige
Natalya is at commentary for this match. Charlotte gets control of the match. She seems very focused. Paige then makes a comeback. She hits a big kick and gets a close 2 count. Charlotte then hits Paige with some chops. Paige comes back with some offense. She goes for the Sharpshooter. Paige unloads in the corner and is pulled off by the referee. She comes back and Charlotte sends her face first into the turnbuckles. Natalya gets up on the apron as Charlotte tries to steal a pin. Paige takes advantage of the distraction and hits a fall-away slam for a 2 count. Ric Flair comes down to ringside and yells at Natalya. Charlotte takes advantage of a distracted Paige and hits a backbreaker. Shane McMahon’s music hits and here he comes. He brings a bunch of referees with him and they escort Flair to the back but he’s not happy. Charlotte looks on and Paige rolls her up from behind for the win. Charlotte looks on looking concerned. Natalya on the other hand, looks on smiling at the champ.

Winner: Paige

Sami Zayn vs The Miz
Fans start the match with “ole!” chants. Sami goes for a quick roll up early on. Lots of back and forth to start. Sami ends up sending Miz to the floor for a breather. Sami runs the ropes for a dive but Maryse pulls Miz to safety and fans boo. Sami goes to the floor and hits a moonsault from the barrier. Sami goes back in the ring while Miz is down on the floor. Fans chant for Sami. He unloads in the corner but gets dropped to the floor and into the steel steps. We see Ceasro & Kevin Owens looking on backstage. Miz tries to get some offense but Sami blocks a Figure Four and hits a Michinoku Driver for a 2 count. Sami slams Miz and goes to the top for a pop. Sami is forded to land on his feet and roll through. Miz kicks the knee out and applies a Figure Four. Sami finally makes it to the bottom rope and breaks the hold. Miz stomps on him. Miz ends up trying to cheat by using the rope for leverage on a pin. Miz argues with the referee as Sami recovers. Sami catches Miz in the corner and hits the exploder suplex into the turnbuckles. Sami hits a kick for the win and earns a spot at Extreme Rules.

Winner: Sami Zayn

Renee Young interviews Becky Lynch backstage. Emma interrupts and tells Becky that she better watch her back. Dana Brooke then attacks Becky Lynch. The 2 look on and issue a warning.

A vignette of Darren Young and Bob Backlund is shown.

Shane MacMahon is backstage talking to Zack Ryder. Zack says he showed at Wrestlemania why he deserves to be her. Shane agrees with him. They get interrupted by Kevin Owens. Owens says that Sami Zayn doesn’t deserve a shot at Extreme Rules. Ryder says he should be in the Fatal 4 Way at Extreme Rules, not Owens. They have words and Shane makes Ryder vs. Owens for tonight. If Ryder wins, he’s in the match at Extreme Rules and Kevin Owens will be out. Owens looks angry.

Tom Phillips interviews Roman Reigns & The Usos. Roman says this is about family. He wants to represent the bloodline and wants to beat The Club at the same time.

Rusev vs. Sin Cara
Kalisto & Lana are at ringside for this match. Surprisingly this match has a lot of back and forth action. Rusev dominates most of the match though. Rusev goes to taunt Kalisto, who jumps on the apron and back down. Lana gets on the other side of the ring to distract the referee. Kalisto nails a kick on Rusev as he charges, Sin Cara then goes for pin and gets the 3 count. Rusev and Lana can’t believe it.

Winner: Sin Cara

AJ Styles, Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows vs. Roman Reigns & The Usos
We start off with Karl Anderson and Jey Uso. Anderson drives Jey into the turnbuckle. Jey surprises Anderson with a drop kick. Reigns gets in the ring and the Samoans triple team Anderson. Anderson tags in Styles, who hits a running forearm on Jimmy. Anderson tags back in and powerslams Jimmy. Anderson misses a jumping knee drop. Jimmy tags in Jey, who hits a powerslams Anderson. Jey rolls up Anderson, but Anderson kicks out. Gallows decks Jey and he falls into a roll up from Anderson for the pin. Jey Uso has been eliminated. Reigns gets in the ring and cleans house. Reigns tags in Jimmy, who hits a high cross body of the top for a two count. Jimmy hits the running hip attack. Gallows gets up and boots Jimmy in the face. Anderson tags in and gets in Jimmy’s face. Jimmy small packages Anderson for a quick three count. Karl Anderson has been eliminated. During the commercial break, Styles hit the phenomenal forearm on Jimmy for the pin fall. Jimmy Uso has been eliminated. After trading punches, Reigns hits the Superman punch on Gallows for the pin. Doc Gallows has been eliminated. Styles immediately jumps all over Reigns. Styles hits the Pelé kick. Styles boots Reigns out of the ring. Styles dives over the top and elbows Reigns. Reigns gets up and tosses Styles into the ring apron. Reigns grabs Styles by the head and tosses him over the announce table. Reigns is about to power bomb Styles on the announce table, but Anderson appears out of nowhere and hits Reigns in the back with a chair. The referee calls for the bell. After the match, Reigns spears both Gallows and Anderson. Styles runs in the ring and kicks Reigns in the face. Styles sets up a chair and tries to Styles Clash Reigns, but Reigns back body drops Styles onto the apron. Styles and Reigns have a standoff. Reigns says he doesn’t need the chair and drops it right in front of Styles. Styles kicks the chair back to Reigns and tells him to pick it up. Reigns picks it up as Styles tries the phenomenal forearm, but Reigns ducks it. Styles rolls to the outside of the ring and stares at the champ. Styles slowly walks away.

Winner: Roman Reigns (DQ)

Zack Ryder vs Kevin Owens
Kevin Owens controls almost all of this match. He talks a lot of trash throughout the match as well. Zack Ryder tries to get some offense. He goes for the Rough Ryder, but Kevin Owens blocks it. Owens then hits Zack with the Pop Up Powerbomb and gets the victory.

Winner Kevin Owens

Renee Young interviews Big Cass. They show video of Enzo’s injury. Big Cass says this is the biggest match of his career. He then goes on and dedicates the match to Enzo.

The New Day vs. The Dudley Boyz
The New Day cut a promo before the match. They go on to mispronounce The Vaudevillians name several times. Xavier Woods says they will use the power of the Booty O in this match. The match begins as The Dudleys make their way to the ring. It is a short match. as The Vaudevillians attack Big E & Xavier. That causes a distraction as Devon hits a clothesline and gets the victory. After the match, The Vaudevillians attack Kofi and hit The Whirling Dervish.

Winners: The Dudley Boyz

Big Cass vs. Chris Jericho
Big Cass makes his way to the ring. Jericho makes his entrance. We see something happening on the stage but only see the lights of Jericho’s jacket moving around but it looks like he’s getting beat up. We see someone wearing the jacket come to the ring and it’s Dean Ambrose. Jericho is down on the stage, yelling at Ambrose. Jericho begs Ambrose to take it easy on the jacket. He comes down to save it but gets beat up. Jericho gets a rake to the eyes and drops Ambrose. He leaves the ring but bumps into Big Cass on the floor. Cass manhandles him and tosses him in the ring to a Dirty Deeds from Ambrose. Ambrose tears up the jacket some more and tosses it as Jericho looks on. Ambrose’s music hits and we go backstage to Shane and Stephanie watching. Shane says he doesn’t know where her new attitude is coming from but it’s welcomed. He says they did well tonight. She thanks him for giving her a shot. She jokes that maybe they can star on the next episode of WWE Ride Along and they agree that would be taking it too far. Shane leaves. Stephanie stops and stares at the photo of Vince and Shane that she had fixed. She seems hesitant about everything. The show ends with Jericho throwing a fit in the ring as Ambrose watches from the ramp.
