Ric Flair: To Be the Man…Whoooooo!

At Unforgiven 2002, Ric Flair would enter the next chapter of his legendary career. Earlier that night Flair and had been shown being berated by the World Champion Triple H. Later in the night during Triple H‘s title defense against Rob Van Dam, Flair would come down to ringside and momentarily make it look as if he was coming to get revenge on Triple H for disrespecting him, only to strike RVD with a sledge hammer and align with “The Game.” Flair would become Triple H‘s new mentor and would begin accompanying him to the ring, constantly helping him retain the World Championship. Flair’s role as mentor would be furthered by the addition of Randy Orton and Batista to the group, which was known as Evolution by then. The concept was truly genius, Flair represented the greatest champion of the past, Triple H the greatest current champion, and Orton and Batista were the future. It all made perfect sense and every member played their position perfectly, especially Flair. As the elder statesmen of the group, Flair passed down his wisdom and knowledge of the business in order to get the young guys ready for a top spot. Seeing as how both Randy Orton and Batista went on to be World Champions. I’d say Flair did a good job. Evolution’s run was so dominant, that at one point they held every title on Monday Night Raw. Triple H was the World Champion, Randy Orton the Intercontinental Champion, and Ric Flair and Batista were the World Tag Team Champions. I guess it’s fair to say Flair just had a knack for ending up in dominant factions.
