Macho Man Randy Savage: Unique Madness

After joining the NWO Wolfpac, and feuding with Roddy Piper and Bret Hart, Savage took a hiatus from WCW to heal from two major knee surgeries. He would only make one appearance in the next few months, helping Ric Flair win a match against Eric Bischoff for the presidency of WCW. When Savage returned in April of 1999, he was sporting new more “modern” looking ring gear, he had new unrecognizable entrance music, and he had a new slick back ponytail. He also had a new female valet, Gorgeous George. His new look and character tweaks were understandable. He had slowed down even more in the ring after his two recent surgeries, and saw the changes as a way to help cover up his diminished skills. The new look Macho Man would reach the top of the mountain one last time at Bash at the Beach 1999. Sadly though, in a move that became too common, he lost the title to Hulk Hogan the following night on Nitro. After the loss, Savage would enter a feud with NBA player, Dennis Rodman, and would end up defeating him at Road Wild 1999. Afterwards, he would once again take a lengthy break from WCW programming, only making two total appearances in the next year. Unlike his last hiatus though, this time there wouldn’t be any triumphant return, as WCW closed it’s doors for good in March 2001.
