WWE Reportedly Worried About Losing Teenage Fans To AEW, News On Ricochet’s Push

According to Dave Meltzer on a recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio Program, WWE Officials have been noticing and are very aware that the company has been losing their touch and their connection with their key demographic, which is the teenagers. There reportedly has been very high concern that the company will completely lose their teenage viewers once AEW starts their weekly TV Programme on TNT this coming fall.

With WWE’s recent attempts at an edgier product such as the brutal matches and the holy shit line by Corey Graves as well as the middle finger by WWE Champion Kofi Kingston, the company hopes that these ways and means will help in keeping the teenage fans and making new ones in that demographic. There was a feeling backstage that this is the direction the company had to go in order to help with the demographic, and for other obvious reasons.

Regarding WWE Superstars that could connect with the teenagers and help the company in keeping them to watch the product, Meltzer noted that there aren’t too many young top talents on the main roster right now, but we could see some of the younger talents called up soon.

The push that WWE United States Champion Ricochet is receiving right now is likely being done to connect with the teenager demographic and help the company to keep these young viewers. New Monday Night RAW Executive Director Paul Heyman is said to be very high on Ricochet. Meltzer also noted that Ricochet is a talent that can likely appeal to the teenager demographic and that is a new goal for the company – to make sure teenagers don’t go to AEW before their weekly TV show starts later this year.
