Despite all the praise Bret had received that year, not everyone was a fan, he was showed massive disrespect by one of the all time legends in Hulk Hogan. Hogan had refused to drop the title to Bret and put him over, saying Hart was too small for anyone to believe he could really beat him. Hogan’s decision robbed the wrestling world of what could have been a classic moment and a proper passing of the torch, he instead chose to drop the WWF Championship back to Yokozuna before leaving the company that made him a mega star. Hogan’s lack of endorsement did little to slow Bret’s momentum going into 1994 though, and with WrestleMania X being the first one for WWF without Hogan, they planned to showcase their new star to the fullest. Bret Hart had won the 1994 Royal Rumble alongside Lex Luger, and both men were awarded championship matches at WrestleMania X. To ensure that all men involved wrestled an equal amount matches that night, Bret was also scheduled to face his brother Owen Hart. The brother’s had begun a feud at the Royal Rumble when Owen attacked Bret after their failed attempt at becoming WWF Tag Team Champions. The Hart Brothers wrestled a classic match against each other and they would’ve stole the show had it not been for Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels making history in a ladder match later that same night. Bret would lose the match to his younger brother, but would have his WrestleMania moment at the end of the show as he emerged victorious against Yokozuna to regain his WWF Championship.
