The weeks leading up to the Money in the Bank pay-per-view were some of the most entertaining stuff WWE had put out in a while. When the “Chairman of the Board” Mr. McMahon and the newly minted “Best in the World” got together inside the ring for contract negotiations, their chemistry was undeniable and rivaled that of McMahon and Stone Cold Steve Austin‘s during the Attitude Era. The defiant Punk would completely rip into Vince McMahon. He demanded his face be on collector’s cups, he wanted his own ice cream bars, “CM Punk: The Movie,” and a personal apology from Mr. McMahon for not pushing him the way he should have. Punk even went as far as telling him “Vince, I’ll Kick you in the nuts and you’ll smile at me and like it, and show me some respect!” The segment would escalate when John Cena came down to the ring to confront Punk. The two would trade barbs until Punk finally found Cena’s button. He told the leader of the “Ce-nation,” who was a proud Boston native, that he had become what he hated, the New York Yankees. Cena would lose his cool and punch him in the head. A frustrated Punk would roll out of the ring and tear up the contract McMahon had offered him. Cena was now responsible for costing WWE the opportunity to lock up their hottest asset. It was all pure gold, and it caused an added stipulation to the match. If John Cena were to lose to CM Punk, allowing him to leave with the WWE Championship, he would be “FIRED!”
