WWE NXT Superstar To Get New Name & A Darker Gimmick

It was recently revealed that NXT Superstar Punishment Martinez is being given a new name and a darker character. Punishment Martinez will now be called Damien Priest. The darker character change for The Former ROH World Television Champion was revealed in the new WWE developmental profile from Sports Business Journal. It was noted that he will be receiving new outfits, new entrance music and a new persona.

Martinez told Sports Business Journal that the new gimmick is a perfect fit for him. He said, “I’ve always been into the weird, the odd, the dark, so that’s the character I’ve always represented.”

The latest issue of Sports Business Journal features NXT North American Champion The Velveteen Dream, Xia Li, Kacy Catanzaro & Bianca Belair on the cover. Sport Business Journal listed 5 talents to watch in WWE and they were Priest, Dream, Li, Catanzaro & Belair.

The new name for Punishment Martinez is not yet being used on the WWE roster or on social media. There is no word yet on when he will start using the new name and darker gimmick. Punishment Martinez signed with WWE in October 28th and later made his debut as a heel. He has received rave reviews since arriving.
