Bully Ray - Wrestling Examiner

On a recent episode of Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray reflected on the valuable lessons he learned from his fellow ECW wrestler, Raven, during the early stages of his career. Bully Ray, who gained prominence in the wrestling world as part of the Dudley Boyz, emphasized the profound impact Raven had on his development as a performer.

Bully Ray recounted how Raven’s unique approach to storytelling and character work influenced his own style in the ring. He noted that Raven had a deep understanding of how to connect with the audience, something that Ray sought to emulate as he navigated the often chaotic environment of ECW.

In addition to his insights on character development, Bully Ray praised Raven’s commitment to the craft and his willingness to share knowledge with younger talent. “Raven was a mentor in many ways,” Bully Ray stated. “He helped shape my understanding of what it means to be a performer and how to engage with the crowd effectively.”

Bully Ray also shared anecdotes from their time together in ECW, illustrating how Raven’s creativity often led to memorable moments that resonated with fans. These lessons, he believes, played a crucial role in his success and longevity in the wrestling industry.

You can check out more highlights from their conversation below (via WrestlingInc.com):

Bully Ray on learning from Raven and Sandman:

I’ve learned from guys like Raven and Sandman, eavesdropping on them putting stuff together, and if you go back and watch and listen to the crowds during matches between those guys, those were some of the best things that ever went on in ECW. My relationship with Raven over the past 25 years has definitely evolved. I think we have an appreciation for one another.”

On how he called him at his mom’s home:

Raven goes, ‘Hey, kid, I just watched your match from the other day at the arena. You’re the sh–s but I think you got a future.’ Thank you, sir.”
