According to PWInsider, Mauro Ranallo recently signed a new contract with The WWE. This contract will reportedly keep Mauro as the voice of The NXT brand. The terms of the new contract were approximately agreed upon one month ago. The new contract will also allow Mauro to continue his commitments outside of The WWE. Mauro remains to be the lead voice for Showtime Championship Boxing and also does work for The Bellator MMA Promotion.
Mauro first signed with The WWE in December 2015. He later debuted as the lead announcer for SmackDown in early 2016. After a 14-month run on the blue brand, Mauro reportedly left the company due to some personal issues with fellow commentator at the time John Bradshaw Layfield. Mauro has publicly denied that it was an issue with JBL that lead him to leave the company, rather saying that it was due to the intense travel schedule that he was locked into at the time.
After a 3-month hiatus from The WWE, he returned as the voice of The NXT brand. It was then reported that Mauro had signed a multi-year deal with the company. Mauro has also called The Cruiserweight Classic & 205 Live and his work on TakeOver Events has been widely praised, which is why he was given The Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s readers award for Best Announcer in 2017. His “Mamma Mia” catchphrase has also become a popular chant at NXT TV Shows as well as NXT Takeover Events and even independent wrestling events.
