CM Punk Was Reportedly Tony Khan’s First Pick For AEW

Before All Elite Wrestling was launched, there were already several names that were connected to the new promotion. Those names were Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks & Chris Jericho. According to Dave Meltzer on a recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio, Program, AEW President Tony Khan had another wrestler in mind to start the company and that wrestler was none other that CM Punk.

Meltzer said, “[CM Punk] was Tony Khan’s first pick for AEW.” “Before [Chris] Jericho, before the Young Bucks, before anyone. If he wants to wrestle, he can wrestle and make really good money, if that’s what he wants.”

Obviously, Punk has yet to get involved with AEW, but he did make a run-in appearance while wearing a mask at MKE Wrestling’s The Last Knight Event this past Friday night.

According to sources, the original plan was for Punk to take off the mask after hitting the GTS in the ring. Sources also indicated that Punk waited in his car outside the venue before making his appearance and left immediately afterwards.
