The main event of last night’s episode of WWE SmackDown, which was The FOX premiere of the show as well as it’s 20th Anniversary Special, saw Brock Lesnar destroy and defeat The WWE Champion Kofi Kingston in a matter of seconds to become The New WWE Champion.
As soon as the opening bell rang, Kofi Kingston went after Brock Lesnar, but Brock Lesnar caught Kofi Kingston in mid-air, nailed him with an F-5 and got the pin for the victory. This is Brock Lesnar’s fifth time becoming The WWE Champion. Kofi Kingston became The WWE Champion at WrestleMania 35 when he defeated Daniel Bryan.
Brock Lesnar’s celebration was cut short when Rey Mysterio’s music hit and he made his way out, but the bigger news was when UFC Legend Cain Velasquez made his way out moments after and made his WWE debut. As soon as Brock Lesnar & Paul Heyman got a glimpse of Velasquez, it looked like they were seeing a ghost as they were extremely in shock.
Velasquez then made his way down to the ring, avoided a shot from Lesnar and put him down. Velasquez then threw some punches on Lesnar and Lesnar tried to get out of dodge. The WWE Champion finally got away from Velasquez and stared him down from the ramp. Lesnar teased going back in the ring, but he backed away and made his way back to the stage as the fans were booing him. WWE SmackDown then went off the air with Cain Velasquez standing tall in the middle of the ring with Rey Mysterio while Brock Lesnar & Paul Heyman watched from the stage.
The segment that took place last Monday night on RAW where Lesnar destroyed Rey Mysterio and Mysterio’s son Dominic was reportedly booked in such a way that a potential matchup between Brock Lesnar & Cain Velasquez could take place somewhere down the line, that is if Cain Velasquez where to sign a contract with The WWE. It is possible that Cain Velasquez has already signed a contract with The WWE prior to the segment taking place on RAW.
As previously reported, Cain Velasquez is no stranger in competing in a pro wrestling type of environment as he just recently made his pro wrestling debut at AAA’s TripleMania XXVII PPV Event. Velasquez also appeared at last month’s AAA Invades NY Show. Velasquez recently had talks with The WWE, AEW, NJPW & AAA, before apparently signing a contract with The WWE and he has reportedly been working a high-flying lucha style type of wrestling as of late, but it was noted that The WWE didn’t want him using that type of a wrestling style as they wanted him to be a real fighter-type of wrestler who could legitimately rival Lesnar.
As of this writing, Cain Velasquez is still under contract to The UFC, yet that contract still allows him to compete in pro wrestling as well, whether it is for AAA or The WWE or any other wrestling promotion.
