In a recent interview with Victorie (via Fightful), Awesome Kong opened up about her departure from AEW in 2020, revealing that her exit was amicable and on good terms with the company. Kong, who was one of the earliest signings to AEW, played a prominent role in the promotion’s early days and appeared on television throughout its first year. Reflecting on her time with AEW, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity and emphasized that her departure was handled professionally, with no hard feelings on either side.
Awesome Kong said:
I had just started out with AEW almost like a year before the pandemic, at the beginning of 2019. Whenever AEW started, I was there, and then in the middle…I had to leave for a little bit to go shoot GLOW, and then while we were shooting GLOW, the pandemic happened, and because of certain ailments that I have, I could not travel, and god bless them, AEW paid me way longer than I thought they would or should, and we just parted ways because I couldn’t come back, and why keep paying someone? We parted amicably, seriously. They paid me way longer than I would’ve paid somebody who’s not coming in for a job. I’m just saying, so yeah.”
