Vince McMahon and Chris Jericho - Wrestling Examiner

During a recent appearance on The Adam Carolla Show, AEW star Chris Jericho discussed his current approach to weightlifting, explaining that he now lifts less due to the potential strain on joints and ligaments for older athletes. He emphasized the importance of adapting training routines as one ages to avoid injuries.

In the same interview, Jericho reflected on his working relationship with Vince McMahon, touching on the recent docuseries focused on McMahon’s life and the allegations against him. Jericho shared his thoughts on how the series portrayed McMahon and the impact it had on the wrestling industry. Below are some highlights from the conversation (via WrestlingInc.com).

Chris Jericho on focusing more on diet and cardio than lifting weights now:

It really is focused on diet now more than anything. I don’t lift weights, per se, anymore cause my joints are getting too messed up. I really enjoy that for a cardio workout. It’s good for the form and for the definition as well.”

Chris Jericho on how lifting weights can be detrimental for older athletes:

I think it becomes more counterproductive over the years when you’re really straining with those joints and those ligaments.”

Chris Jericho on the inherent danger in wrestling:

[Wrestling is] still a contact sport. So you can be as careful as you want but you still have to be durable and cognizant of where your body is and just stay in the best shape you can.”

Chris Jericho on learning from McMahon:

Not everything can be great, but as far as the wrestling business goes, I learned a lot about the actual wrestling side from him.”

Chris Jericho on the Mr. McMahon docuseries:

He’s a very polarizing guy… It’s just interesting, the timing of it with everything else that’s going on. It really just goes in phases and waves, but, yeah, it was really interesting.”
