Fightful Select has provided an update on WWE’s plans for WrestleMania 41 regarding Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. According to Sean Ross Sapp, based on information he’s received, he doesn’t expect The Rock to be working next year’s event. Dr. Chris Featherstone also reported that WWE’s creative team is operating under the assumption that The Rock will not be part of WrestleMania, which aligns with Fightful’s information.
This follows a report from The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, who stated in October that The Rock had informed WWE of his unavailability for the event. While The Rock himself denied this on Instagram, writing, “Don’t believe any of that bulls***,” Fightful reports that WWE has been preparing creative plans without expecting his involvement.
However, Fightful notes that this situation is still fluid, and things could change, much like The Rock’s surprise appearance at WWE’s Bad Blood event earlier this year. While the appearance didn’t serve any major storyline purpose, it was reportedly a way to get The Rock on-screen. WWE didn’t know for certain that he would appear at the event until the week of, which led to the Drew McIntyre vs. CM Punk Hell in a Cell match opening the show.
The Rock’s busy filming schedule also complicates matters. He recently finished filming a live-action version of Moana, where he’ll reprise his role as Maui. Additionally, Fightful reports that The Rock and Cody Rhodes filmed something at the Moana 2 premiere, though the details and potential release of the footage remain unclear.
