The Awesome Rise of The Miz

As WrestleMania 27 approached, The Miz was feuding with John Cena over the WWE Championship. The problem was, Cena was feuding with WrestleMania Host, Dwayne The RockJohnson, at the same time, making both The Miz and the WWE Championship seem less important. The disrespect would continue at WrestleMania, where The Miz, the defending WWE Champion, was forced to take a back seat in his own title match so that The Rock and Cena could set up their match for the next year’s WrestleMania. The Miz would end up winning the match, but the damage to his character had already been done. Cena would take the WWE Championship off him at Extreme Rules 2011. From there, The Miz would struggle to regain his momentum. He and R-Truth would form ” The Awesome Truth,” but they didn’t last long. Then came an ill advised face turn that just didn’t seem natural. He’d win his first Intercontinental Championship in 2012, but still seemed to be floundering in an uninspiring mid card division. Then, he went away to film The Marine 4: Moving Target, and it was the best thing that could’ve happened to his wrestling career. When he returned, The Miz had found new life. He was now a “Movie Star,” and he demanded to be treated like one. The change in character lead to success for both The Miz and his new stunt double Damien Mizdow (Sandow). The angle worked wonders for both men, endearing Mizdow to the WWE universe, and recapturing a lot of the heat Miz had lost. The Angle wouldn’t get a proper pay off, but it sure was entertaining for its entire duration.
