Eddie Guerrero – How He Lied, Cheated and Stole Our Hearts

Despite Los Guerrero’s immense popularity, Eddie had bigger and better things to accomplish as a singles star. His career reached its pinnacle at No Way Out 2004 when Eddie defeated Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship. The live crowd erupted into cheers of support and approval for Eddie. His victory is still one of the biggest upsets in WWE history, especially considering that Triple H, Goldberg, John CenaBig ShowUndertaker, and Kurt Angle are the only other superstars to ever defeat Brock Lesnar one on one. Eddie had finally reached the top of the mountain, he was a true success story, he had beaten his demons and won the most prestigious championship in wrestling. Guerrero headlined Wrestlemania XX, successfully defending his WWE Championship against Kurt Angle, and sharing an emotional embrace with long time friend, and newly crowned World Heavyweight Champion, Chris Benoit to close the show. He would go on to hold the WWE Championship for 4 months before finally losing it to John “Bradshaw” Layfield (JBL) at The Great American Bash. Eddie would transition into a tag team with his good friend Rey Mysterio. The two would eventually enter a classic feud that featured a great match at Wrestlemania 21, and the infamous ladder match at Summerslam 2005 for the custody of Rey Mysterio’s son, Dominic. Eddie was on a great run and rumor has it that he had been booked to win the World Heavyweight Championship in order to allow Batista time to recover from injury, Batista would later deny those rumors. We would never get the chance to see for ourselves whether the rumors were true or not.
